  "The Problem of EVIL & SUFFERING" Thread!

  for all individuals who are atheists, agnostics, christians, jews, muslims, jehovah's witnesses, or anyone else: this is the thread to post the very best argument against god or defense/case for god based on the problem of evil/suffering.. if there is an all-good, all-powerful, all-knowing god, why does he allow all of the suffering and evil we have today (and down through the millenniums)?.

  also, for those who believe in god (like myself), how do you harmonize/reconcile your belief in god with the fact of all of the evil and suffering in the world?.

  i will post my beliefs on this shortly..

  The Master spoke to me this morning. . .

  this morning as i lay lying in bed i was listening to music on the radio station on my headset.

  when i do this, i do this so as not to disturb the wife while she is sleeping.

  only this morning, she had already risen and was downstairs getting ready to go to work and just about to walk out the door.

  Shaddap You Face

  in 1980 a song was out on the radio called shaddap you face.

  it was supposed to be a fun song mimicking italians saying what sounded like shut up a your face.. i remember having parents bringing their children to me for counsel because their kids would giggle and sing this song.

  some jw parents thought it was a terrible song, disrespectful and ungodly.. i remember telling one hardline parent that i kind of thought the song was funny and that it might not be such a big deal.

  I was with my wife and she never heard it before and thought it was funny with the accent cause she has a Brazilian accent. We come home and what do I see here.... the same song.

  i remember as a kid reading an article - not sure if watchtower or awake - which terrified the life out of me!

  i remember thinking at the time "ok, this may be true, but i'm just a kid, i shouldn't be reading this!".

  some of the details remain imprinted on my mind decades later.

  How could anything not be INAPPROPRIATE... The Youth Book... at FAMILY STUDY TIME.

  And yes those stories of rape and Cannibalism almost describing Dante's Vision! Were very sick!! Some of the most inappropriate things I ever heard from the Stage was during the DC's. How Graphic can they get???

  Science Channel program on "Lost Gospels" - did anyone else see it?

  i watched an interesting program last night on science channel called mysteries of the bible - this episode was about the lost gospels.. they include one by peter, another by mary magdelene, and one by judas.

  the most interesting part of the show, to me, was how they debunked the notion (shared by the wtbts) that constantine's council was somehow inspired and picked out the correct four gospels by divine means.. the pictured constantine as a practically non-religious person except in the sense that he saw a centrally organized system of christianity as a source of political power for himself.

  much was made of how he disliked the independent spirit of the gnostics, and therefore viewed mathew, mark, luke, and john as the least politically dangerous of the numerous gospel writings available in his time.. and, of course, again i was reminded of just how uncertain we really are about the writings preserved in the present-day new testament: they were written at least decades after their events took place, and were the result of verbal traditions told from one person to another.

  most of us here know what a hypocritical, backstabbing bunch of gossips many of the jw's tend to be.

  far too often, a jw wont tell you to your face what's eating them, but they'll sure tell others.

  when i started waking up (the second time around) this made me very paranoid.
